Welcome to High Street United Methodist Church!
At High Street we welcome all people as we live into God’s call upon us to be a church that is “building a community of faith that celebrates, nurtures and serves in the love of Jesus Christ.” If you are looking for a faith community, we hope you will consider High Street United Methodist Church. We’ve listed the answers to some common questions below. We hope you decide to give us a visit! |
What is your worship like?
High Street UMC reopened to in-person Worship in April, due to the pandemic we are now offering a single worship service at 10:00 am. Our worship service offers a time of congregational prayer, focus on scripture and a sermon each week. The first Sunday of the month we offer communion to all who wish to receive it.
We are working diligently to get back to some form of normality and be able to offer all of our previous services including Traditional and Praise Worship, Choirs, Sunday School, Nursery Care, and Children & Youth Worship very soon.
Sunday Worship Service begins at 10:00 am and includes piano music, organ music, sermon, responsive readings, liturgical prayer, children’s message, special music, and a mix of contemporary Christian music, urban gospel, traditional hymns, and children’s music.

How do I get there and where do I park?
We are located at the northeast corner of East High Street and Spring Street in downtown Springfield. Parking is available on both the east and west sides of the church as shown in the pink outlined area of the photo. Primary entrances are shown with the pink dots. Our accessible parking and entrance is on the east side. During the week, the primary entrance is the office entrance found on the west side.
From East High Street we have a west and east side entrance into our parking lot. Feel free to park in any space as parking is all around the church. There is also a beautifully landscaped lower lot accessible from Spring Street.
For Sunday morning services, all doors are open. We have a wheelchair accessible entrance on the east side of the building. If stairs are an obstacle for you please use the wheelchair ramp as all other entry doors have steps. During the week, the only door that is sure to be open is the office door on the west side.

What about my kids?
For those with children, we want you to know that children are welcome in all aspects of the life of our church, and especially in our times of worship.
We have created a task force to re-create, re-imagine, re-envision our nursery and childcare programs. Your voice is important! In the meantime, children are welcome in the Sanctuary/Commons area, during the church service. And we understand they are children! |
What do I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable wearing. You’ll see folks in jeans, and you’ll see folks in suits. The bottom line is that your presence is more important to us than your appearance!
How do I meet people?
We have fellowship in the Commons area after the 10:00 am Worship Service. Coffee and refreshments are available. We also have congregational meals and other fellowship opportunities where you can meet people. You can also join a study or a ministry team. There are lots of ways to connect!
Will I be asked for money?
As a first-time guest, we do not expect you to participate in morning offering unless you feel so led. In fact, we’d like to make a donation in your honor to one of our missions.
When do you have Communion?
Communion is served the first Sunday of each month and is open to all who wish to receive it.
Where are the restrooms?
We have three restrooms on the main floor and two rest rooms on the lower level. The main floor restrooms all accommodate wheelchairs. Two of the restrooms have a diaper changing table.
Due to the COVID pandemic we are not able to use the water fountains. There are water bottles in the Commons for anyone who would like one.

Is there Sunday School?
Sunday School is not available at this time. Our task force is working on re-creating these programs to restart in the fall. Until then we have worked in a children’s message and music into our Sunday Worship Service at 10:00 am.
